About The TBA Museum

For the most comprehensive history of South African horseracing in South Africa, the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association of South Africa (TBA) Museum is a cultural gem that shouldn’t be missed. Nestled on the East Rand in the old mining town of Germiston, Gosforth Park, the museum was created in 2009, built by TBA members, and is a welcome addition to the TBA sales complex.

The wonderfully curated museum showcases the history of horseracing in South Africa, and displays include interesting horseracing artefacts in glass cases, vintage books, catalogues and race cards.

Expect to find a veritable visual journey through the ages: each decade is distinguished by an iconic female figure. Princess Diana commemorates horseracing in the eighties alongside the music and personalities of the time, providing an interesting perspective for visitors.

Photographic displays include images of famous and well known thoroughbred horse breeders and horses that made history.

The museum cinema is a highlight. Watch a beautifully produced video production of South Africa's early racing legends, with original film footage of horses such as Hawaii, Colorado King and Sea Cottage. Video titles are updated according to the horse sales seasons, so you can look forward to something new from time to time.

Spend as much time as you like visiting. Comfortable seating is provided inside the museum – a perfect resting place for some time-out. A Portuguese restaurant on the premises is the ideal spot to enjoy a coffee, snack or light meal, a lovely way to finish an interesting visit.

The TBA promotes and encourages the breeding and improvement of thoroughbred horses and is committed to their care.
